Frequent Questions

Things you might ask

What length of stay is available?

We know it helps to be as flexible as possible. We currently have a 3-night minimum stay available, with check-ins almost every day of the week – and you can book to stay for as long as you want! Just visit our BOOKING PAGE  to get the best available rates.

What is the cancellation policy?

When booking directly, your reservation is secured with a 10% non-refundable deposit when you book. The remaining 90% will be charged 60 days before your stay, or at the time of booking if less than 60 days beforehand. Other policies may apply if booked through 3rd parties.

Cancellations more than 60 days ahead of check-in date will incur no charge beyond the deposit. No refunds are available for cancellations made within 60 days of the check-in date.

If for any unavoidable reason you do need to cancel later than that, please get in touch and we will do our best to see if your booking can be rescheduled (subject to availability) so that you don’t lose out.

What time is check in and check out?

Check-in is available anytime from 4pm on your day of arrival and check-out is by 10am on your day of departure. Please contact us if you wish to drop luggage off slightly ahead of the 4pm check in time and we will try to accommodate this.

How do we find the house?

Coillemore House is located here. Provisionally, allow 1.5-2hrs driving time from Inverness, 3.5-4 hrs from Glasgow and 4-4.5 hours from Edinburgh, although these times can vary a lot based on average speeds (holiday periods may be slower due to traffic) and number of stops. Take your time and enjoy the journey, there is much to see and do along the way!

How do we gain access on arrival?

We will be in touch with you directly before your stay with entry instructions.

Do we need a car? How much parking is available?

We definitely recommend coming by car. This will enable you to get the most out of your stay, including day trips, local shopping and eating out. There is ample parking at the house for up to 7-8 cars (if you really need that much space!).

Duirinish and/or Kyle train stations are only a few miles away, but public transport in the region is fairly minimal outside of the main roads, while relying on local taxis can be expensive and logistically challenging. Cycling is possible, but be ready for some very hilly country!

Do you have free wifi? What about 4G coverage?

Of course! You’ll find the open wifi network when you arrive at the house. While you may be looking forward to a bit of digital detox, we know sometimes you might need to do the odd bit of work or keep the kids entertained. There’s only a few local sheep who might want to log on as well, so there’s no fiddly password.

There is also now good 4G phone coverage at the house thanks to a recent mast installation.

Can I bring my dog?

We do accept well-behaved pets, up to two per stay, subject to a pet charge to cover the additional cleaning required. You can choose this option when booking, or add this in to your booking anytime prior to your stay – contact us if you need help with this.

We trust that pet owners will act responsibly and kindly request that you follow all sensible practice, including not allowing them on any furniture or upstairs in the house. We do also provide some dog friendly facilities.

Will we need to heat the hot tub?

We can have it ready for you to jump straight in! Many of our guests love to start using the hot tub as soon as they arrive, so we’re happy to pre-heat it for you – all part of the service. Even if you don’t use it straight away, that means it’s easier to warm up for use on subsequent days. Instructions are provided in the house guide on arrival.

Are there any house rules we should know?

You are here to relax and unwind, so there is no onerous set of do’s and don’ts. The house guide which you’ll receive upon booking has all you need to know. Please note Coillemore House is a no-smoking property, but you may smoke outside.

Are linens and towels provided?

Yes, fresh linen, hand and bath towels and handsoaps/showergels in the bathrooms are all included, no need to bring any extra.

It has extensive cookware and cutlery, for all your culinary needs including a blender, slow cooker, hand mixer, air fryer and microwave. The table seats up to 10 and the breakfast bar has seating for 4.

It is also stocked with cleaning materials, rubbish bags and kitchen towels so you don’t need to bring these.

There is a washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes hanger in the utility room next to the kitchen, plus plenty of space to hang coats and store boots.

Do you have facilities for babies / toddlers?

Yes, we have a cot and high-chair available for use, please let us know beforehand if you want to use these.

What are good places to eat out in the area?

There is some amazing cuisine up here – particularly seafood – if you know where to look. Our house and area guide, which you’ll receive when you book, contains plenty of recommendations of where to eat nearby and within day-trip distance, from pubs and cafes to fine dining. As it’s a rural area, we would definitely advise double checking kitchen opening times and/or to reserve a table, especially during peak holiday seasons.

What activities are available in the area?

There are loads of memorable activities, day trips and places to visit across the Skye & Wester Ross area. Have a look through this website and the house and area guide for lots of ideas.

Is it possible to arrange a local chef to cook a dinner at the house or other catering?

Please contact us if you are interested in these services and once we’ve understood what you’re looking for we’ll put you in touch with the right people.

Can we host an event at Coillemore House?

We would love to help you make your stay extra special and we have already hosted several wedding parties and other family gatherings and occasions. Please reach out to us to discuss arranging a special event such as a landmark birthday celebration, intimate wedding or family reunion. Or indeed if you are interested in putting together a corporate retreat, away weekend or workshop.

Is it possible to arrange additional cleaning during our stay?

It may be possible to arrange an extra mid-stay clean. If interested, please request this before your stay and we will advise availability and cost.

What should we pack for our stay?

Scottish weather is notoriously variable, ranging from glorious sunshine to very damp, sometimes within only a few minutes! Here at Coillemore House you can appreciate all conditions from the comfort of our living room, with a nice warm fire on the go as you look out over Loch Alsh.

But when you’re out and about, be prepared for all seasons. A decent waterproof jacket and a couple of warm layers will help you stay comfortable in spring, summer and autumn, while in winter extra layers and a warm down/insulated jacket should get plenty of use. From May-September midge repellent is a must-have on windless days – Smidge is probably the best choice.

Proper walking boots are also highly advisable instead of trainers to keep your feet dry! Our utility room has all the facilities you need to quickly dry off all your boots and clothes if necessary.

Where can I see the famous Highland cows?

The most important question! Answer: just over the hill in the village of Duirinish, where a herd roams the local roads – head that way and you should have a good chance of spotting them.
