Paddle and Plunge 5th – 12th September 2026

Sea Kayak Plockton present

Paddle & Plunge

A refined adventure with a rugged spirit — blending guided coastal journeys by kayak through the dramatic north-west Highlands and islands, invigorating wild swims in spectacular settings, and restorative heat therapy at day’s end. It’s an immersive way to encounter Scotland’s untamed landscapes — thoughtfully led, deeply comfortable, and driven by curiosity.

Coastal Kayak Journeys

Travelling by kayak opens up hidden shorelines, quiet inlets and places unreachable by road. It’s the most intimate way to move through this landscape.

No prior experience is required. Whether you’re completely new or have paddled before, you’ll be supported by two highly experienced coaches, Alison French and Ali Rose. Their deep familiarity with these waters ensures a safe, confidence-building experience for everyone in the group.

Wild Swimming

Adding a swim brings an elemental dimension to each day. After time on the water, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself fully in the surroundings.

Guest open-water coach Norma Macleod of Immerse Hebrides will guide each session. First-time swimmers are warmly supported, while more experienced participants can opt for longer swims or focused technique work. Every dip is carefully planned to match conditions and individual ability, with safety always the priority.

Rest and Restore

Evenings are about unwinding. Gather by the fire, soak in the wood-fired hot tub, or step into the sauna to relax tired muscles and reset.

There may also be the chance to experience a guided steam and herb ritual led by Norma, a trained Saunamaster. Using seasonal foliage, aromatic steam and traditional leaf whisking, this meditative practice offers a deeply calming, sensory journey inspired by the rhythms of nature.

Where You’ll Stay

For the week, you’ll be based at Coillemore House — an elegant manor within the Balmacara Estate, cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. With sweeping views across Loch Alsh towards Skye (just a short drive away), it’s an ideal base for exploring the surrounding coastline.

Food & Drink

Evening meals are freshly prepared by local chef Lynne Kennedy, showcasing comforting, home-cooked dishes. One evening is reserved for a much-loved local classic — fish and chips from the renowned “Shonzey”.

Breakfast provisions are supplied for you to prepare at your own pace in the spacious, well-equipped kitchen. Each day includes a ready-made packed lunch, along with the legendary Sea Kayak Plockton flapjack for elevenses.

Meet Your Swim Guide – Norma Macleod

After 18 years working in the NHS, Norma retrained as an open-water coach and founded Immerse Hebrides in 2019. What began as a sea-swimming venture has grown into a coastal wellness offering that includes guided swims, marine wildlife tours, the Saltbox Sauna wild spa, and immersive retreats across the Outer Hebrides.

A former competitive swimmer, Norma specialises in tidal environments and brings extensive knowledge of sea conditions. As a certified Saunamaster through the International Bath Academy, she also leads herbal steam rituals that combine natural botanicals with therapeutic heat.
